Automatic Weather Data Acquisition Via Public Telephone Networks
Magnus Aronsson · American Meteorological Society eBooks · 1970
A new weather data acquisition system has been developed by ASEA, Sweden, and is in operation at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. Weather data are transmitted via automatic public telephone networks using the digital data communication (DIDAC) equipment developed by ASEA. The telephone numbers of the synoptic stations are pre-programmed in a Model PDP 8 computer which automatically establishes the connection of the circuit to the synoptic station and reads the message. The advantages of the system compared to more conventional weather data collecting systems are increased speed of acquisition, decreased error frequency and reduction of line expenses.
