Use of Rhenish tuff in the Netherlands

Rhenish tuffs (Rmer, Weiberner / Hohenleie, Et-tringer / Hasenstoppler) from the volcanic Eifel re-gion, Germany, have widely been used as building stone in the Netherlands. In the present paper, an overview is given of their historic use in the Nether-lands, the experience with weathering, the search of good replacement stones for the Riimer tuff in par-ticular, as well as the use of Rhenish tuff as re-placement stone for other, non-tuffaceous stones in Dutch monuments
