Eliminating Disintegrated Cells on Hematologic Smears
Cynthia M. Densmore · Laboratory Medicine · 1981
The addition of 22% bovine albumin to peripheral blood, bone marrow and cerebrospinal fluid specimens minimizes white blood cell disintegration that often occurs during smear preparation. The albumin does not interfere with red blood cell morphology or special staining techniques. The accuracy and reproducibility of the white blood cell differential counts performed on smears of these specimens are increased after addition of albumin.
