Complexity Reduced Carrier Recovery Using Spread Spectrum for Low CNR Environment

Tomohiro Arakawa, Nobukazu Doi · 2016

Low data-rate communication is an effective approach for Internet of things (IoT) devices such as measurement nodes of wireless sensor networks which are required to operate at very low power. While a method which enables the receivers to perform the accurate carrier recovery for low-CNR and low-data-rate communication was proposed, the major difficulty has been its computational complexity. This paper proposes novel methods that reduce the complexity of the carrier recovery process. The proposed methods consist of two approaches: carrier recovery using a trellis diagram, and adaptive control of the parameter of the algorithm. The performance evaluation by computer simulations and experiments showed that the proposed methods reduce the complexity of the carrier recovery significantly.
