The Bucharest traffic management system: delivering an integrated ITS solution
Ed Riches, Marius G. Minea · Traffic engineering & control · 2007
In January 2007, Romania became one of the two latest countries to join the European Union and the large transport community and network on the continent. Some important European TEN-T 1 corridors traverse the Romanian territory, Corridor VII including the Danube River and Corridor IV for railway. The country provides important links between western and south-eastern countries of Europe. In the lead up to EU membership, increasing economic activity and resultant increases in traffic have posed a major challenge, especially to the urban authorities. The latest developments in ITS technology can provide cost effective solutions to managing urban networks and traffic congestion.
