Stabilising stereo images
Michael Anthony Gerzon · 1974
A disadvantage of multimicrophone recording technique is that it usually gives stereo images that are only heard correctly by people sitting in the 'stereo seat'. This means that a producer can be assured with a high degree of confidence that most consumers having good stereo equipment will not hear the mixdown with the intended stereo effect. In many circumstances, a recording can be made or modified to have a stable stereo image that may be heard even by a very offcentre listener.
