The effects of computers on society and suggestions as to how the present use of computers in education fails to fulfill societal needs are discussed in this paper; further, it describes the present use of computers in education, the problems with the present uses, and suggests possible directions for computer uses in the schools. Attention is given to software packages that emphasize problem-solving, information processing, and model-building activities.
