Effect of coupling on change in open source Java systems

Software maintenance is an increasing concern for both the developers and users. Maintainability depends on the adaptability, flexibility, and changeability of software which in turn depends on the coupling between its different modules. High coupling that makes a system rigid and hard to change is purposefully avoided in software development. This research investigates and measures the effect of coupling on changes by analysing the evolution of ten different open source Java systems. It has used Spearman correlation coefficient statistic for results validation and observes that high coupling has minimal effect on software changeability.
