Attack sensing against EM leakage and injection
Noriyuki Miura, Shivam Bhasin · 2016
This paper introduces two circuit-level reactive sensor-based countermeasures against malicious implementation attacks exploiting EM-radio leakage from and injection to cryptographic processors. An LC-oscillator-based sensor detects a tiny micro-EM probe approaching proximity to the processor for a passive EM analysis attack. A PLL-based sensor detects intentional high-level EM power injection for an active EM fault injection attack. Hardware-level security enhancement of the crypto processor has been demonstrated with successful sensor operations silicon-proven by ASIC and FPGA test-chip measurements.
