Energy saving is commonly recognized as the most important issue in Wireless Sensor Networks especially when nodes are scattered in a hostile deployment area. In such a case, replacement and recharge of batteries are not feasible. Therefore, sensor nodes must carry on till the specified end of their mission, despite a poor initial energy budget. To reach this objective, sensor node protocols must be efficiently energy saving, notably, for routing protocols which are more energy consumer when sending and receiving data packets. To save energy, nodes are keeping operating only when needed, otherwise they enter sleeping mode with minimum energy expenditure. That is, nodes use duty cycle approach switching from active mode to sleeping one. In this paper, we propose a new routing protocol combining a duty cycle mechanism with sink mobility in the context of nodes clustering organization. This combination significantly improves the energy saving. Performance evaluation of our proposal carried on NS2 simulator exhibits convincing results and outperforming those of the reference protocol.
