Resignations put Los Alamos in limbo
Peter H. Gwynne · Physics World · 2003
It has been a troubled past few years for the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. In 1999 the government accused staff physicist Wen Ho Li of stealing nuclear secrets – only to later find him guilty of a minor charge. In 2000 an investigation following a forest fire revealed that the lab had lost computers containing classified information. Then late last year the lab dismissed Glenn Walp and Steven Doran – two investigators whom it had hired to look into allegations of credit-card abuses by lab staff and the disappearance of computers and other equipment worth over $2.5m.
