The service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a popular technology that provides advantages for people designing an integrated business information system for consumer services. Web services (WSs) are basic tools to provide flexibility and crossing heterogeneous platforms when implementing a SOA. However, WSs still have some limitations. For instance, WSs cannot combine workflow services, and only support function-level services. However, a business system has function-level services and must have a user interface and business processes. For web-based consumer services, programmers typically construct a system in three parts-the WSs, workflow, and user interface. This work presents a novel integrated web service middleware (IWSM) framework that supports business-process-level service composition using business process execution language (BPEL) technology. The BPEL can combine old and new WSs as an automatic workflow to achieve service reuse and increase Internet service flexibility. Rich internet application (RIA) and user interface markup language are used for an interactive user interface to increase business system flexibility.
