The basis of wavelet analysis

The name analysis first appeared at the beginning of the 1980s in the context of the study of geophysical signals. It soon became clear that the subject has many roots and many areas of application. The present success of wavelet methods is largely because they combine intrinsic mathematical content with wide practical applicability.
