An Interesting Case Involving Footwear Distribution Information
John P. Black · 2005
Although it is not uncommon to individualize a ques- tioned footwear impression to a particular shoe, it is certainly the exception to the rule. In most cases in my experience, the highest degree of association between questioned and known impressions is correspondence in combined class characteristics such as physical size, shape, and outsole design. However, simply reporting this corre- spondence may not be the best information that can be provided to the investigator. The addition of distribution information for a particular shoe could strengthen your conclusions. This is the approach that was taken in this case.
