Achieving QoS in media streaming for peer to peer networks

Mohd Sarfaraz Ahmed · 2016

Media Streaming is a multimedia that is sent over a network and played as it is being received by the end users. With large volumes of multimedia data in P2P systems, locating data needs to address a multi-modal retrieval. There are a lot of challenges in achieving QoS in P2P systems such as churn in the systems, free riding problems, bottlenecks etc. In this paper, to achieve high QoS for live media streaming in P2P overlay, this paper proposes the use of a Heuristic search algorithm namely Branch and Bound that may provide solutions to both centralized and distributed frameworks. Secondly, as there are frequent churns in a P2P overlay, i.e., when several peers wanted to have access to the same media at once, this paper proposes a strategy of setting the time value for every media stream for each peer on an overlay. Results show that the time for execution of media stream may be estimated dynamically given the time value.
