Due to the more complexity of Turbo code than linear block code and convolutional code, the existing methods for identifying channel coding cannot be directly applied to Turbo codes. This paper proposes a method for automatic recognition of Turbo codes. The proposed method firstly demultiplexes and de-punctures the soft information of the received sequence to attain the soft information of two sequences corresponding to the output of component encoders. Then the soft information of punctured bits is patched. Finally, the method for automatic recognition of convolution codes is used to recognize the component encoders, puncture structure and interleaver. Consequently, the Turbo codes used in transmitters is recognized. Simulation results show that the proposed method can quickly and effectively complete the automatic recognition of Turbo codes and is easy to implement.
