This doctoral dissertation is an attempt to understand systematically the phenomenon of business support services and service delivery models such as shared services, outsourcing etc. Pursuing this doctoral research alongside demanding consulting assignments has not been easy, and undoubtedly this dissertation would not have become a reality without the encouragement and support of my supervisors: Professor dr.Kuldeep Kumar, my promotor, who greatly nurtured and supported my interest in scholarly research, and Professor dr.Jos van Hillegersberg, who believed in the potential of this research.I am grateful for their support
