Fall Detection Methods

Kuan Wen, Feng Wang · International Conference on Intelligent Networks and Intelligent Systems · 2015

Falling down is a leading cause of death for those who are over 65. In order to provide a healthy and safe guarantee for the elderly, some of robust and efficient fall detection systems which can effectively detect falls and can raise an alarm in time are required. There are many proposed methods to detect falls and they can be divided into surrounding environment based and wearable devices based. Wherein the first method has enough accuracy but only fixed-point detection, contrast detection range of the second method is not limited, but less accurate. In this survey, the two methods are subdivided, analyzed, compared and summarized. Then, based on the survey, the challenges faced by current fall detection research are concluded. Finally, we present an outlook on the trend future detection methods and provide valuable information for the reader.
