FUZZY LOGIC BASED QUALITY OF SERVICE MODELS

The continuous monitoring of information systems’ quality of service increases importance as business becomes more and more dependent of those systems. In order to evaluate the quality of service of systems, models need to be defined, so the definition of quality is documented and shared by all relevant stakeholders. Because of their complexity and today modelling frameworks, quality of service models tend to result in a poor representation of reality, mainly because of their lack of ability to represent imprecision. Since the ability to represent reality is a fundamental property of models, only when a solution is found to this problem, better models will appear. In this work, we investigate the creation of quality of service models, for information systems, using as motivation the general structure of a fuzzy logic controller, the most successful application of fuzzy logic. The objective is to obtain models that are a better representation of reality, and by consequence easier to create and understand. This thesis also presents the investigation on related topics to support the identified problem and motivations, followed by the solution details proposal. Finally, the solution is applied in real world systems, from the collaboration with PT-Comunicacoes, to validate the given hypothesis.
