Optical Character Recognition Based on Genetic Algorithms

Jamil Abdulhameed, Mohamed Saif · 2015

The optical character recognition (OCR) is known to be one of the earliest applications of artificial intelligence. Genetic algorithm, which partially emulate human thinking in the domain of artificial intelligence, has been used in this study for OCR. After conducting several iterations of learning algorithm, which depends on concrete conditions and fitness function, we have generated the required character specification. Based on testing and evaluation results, the percentage of OCR was around 97%.
