The increasing risks of IP theft
Mark Gare · Bulletin (Law Society of South Australia) · 2013
Intellectual Property (IP) is original data that has been 'created or compiled by a person or organisation for a purpose'. It is far more than the traditional four classes of IP - Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights and Trade Secrets. The evolution of the internet and public availability of data and documents means that IP is far more visible and accessible than ever before. Based on my experience as a commercial forensic technology investigator, the most targeted IP is that of the client list and their contact details. This will appear in documents, spread sheets and database files.
