Link quality and position aware route selection in mobile sensor networks

We consider the issue of route selection and optimization for a mobile sensor network in the presence of Rician/Rayleigh heterogeneous fading environment. The link quality- and position-aware route (LPAR) optimization framework is presented to improve the end-to-end throughput of the routes. At first, a link quality aware route selection strategy selects the optimal route by incorporating the routing decisions with the link quality. In position-aware optimization, the bottleneck link of the selected route is identified and the receiving node on the link is re-positioned such that end-to-end throughput is improved. The optimal new position for a node is heuristically found using a priori information about the fading channels, and the positions of transmitting and interfering nodes. We illustrate through simulations that the proposed framework provides routes with considerably better performance than conventional route selection metrics, in terms of the end-to-end throughput.
