So why are you doing this job, with a degree in physics?

Not a promising opening, I felt, when I was recently applying for another job in my own department – especially as I was being interviewed by the personnel director. The job concerned was about systems and IT management, which I felt I was well able to do and to which my degree was relevant. But after the interview it did make me question why, as a physics graduate, I was doing my current job.
