Expansion planning of data centers in energy and cyber networks

Ali Vafamehr, Mohammad E. Khodayar · 2016

This paper proposed a coordinated expansion planning for data centers and cyber routes in the cyber and electricity networks. The objective is to determine the location and capacity of the data center as well as the required cyber routes to serve the demand in the cyber networks considering the imposed constraints of the electricity and cyber networks. The installation cost of the data centers and cyber routes as well as the operation cost of the electricity network are minimized. The expansion planning of the data centers and cyber routes ensures an acceptable rate of service for the requests from the user groups considering the power supply limitations and cost. The problem is formed as a mixed integer programming problem and Bender decomposition is used to solve this problem. The presented case study shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
