COMBATING CRIME AND TERRORISM USING DATA MINING TECHNIQUES

In the wake of 9/11 terrorist attack on America; many countries became more particular about their national security. In the light of this, various means have be adopted to help the law enforcement agencies to identify terrorist and to counter-terrorism. One of such measure is the use of computer technology and computer analysis for effective analysis of criminal activities. Data mining can be used by law enforcement agencies to analyze information by applying the various data mining techniques. In this paper, we analyzed how data mining techniques can be adopted by law enforcement agencies in tracking the activities of terrorist and their criminal activities; also the paper examines the limitation of data mining in fighting crime in Nigeria.
