exible structure that allows researchers to develop supplemental software packages. These packages are commonly used to share data, implement new methods and tools, introduce students to statistics and computation, and support open research. This paper serves as a tutorial for individuals to create their own packages and release those packages on the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN). Several topics are discussed: coding practices in R, preliminary steps in constructing a package, building S3 classes and methods in R, and completing an R package. This tutorial is supplemented by online videos and open source lecture slides.
