Announcing the Third Dialog State Tracking Challenge

Matthew Henderson, Blaise Thomson, J. D. Williams · 2014

A spoken dialog system, while communicating with a user, must keep track of what the user wants from the system at each step. This process, termed dialog state tracking, is essential for a successful dialog system as it directly informs the system’s actions. The rst two Dialog State Tracking Challenges have allowed for evaluation of dierent dialog state tracking techniques, providing common testbeds and evaluation suites. The third Dialog State Tracking Challenge (DSTC3) introduces the task of developing robust and accurate state trackers to work in an extended dialog domain where there is a lot of labelled data in a related but smaller domain. The ability for approaches to cope well with expanding domains and limited training data is of particular interest for the deployment of commercial dialog systems. This document is released at the start of the challenge with the seed dataset
