Read only file system for the IncludeOS Unikernel

This thesis is a presentation of a compact read only file system located in the ram.The file system has got two versions to read metadata: the first -finding a file or folder through reading an index. The second versioncreating a tree structure of the metadata and use the tree structure to find file or folders. To prove the functionality of the file system, I created a web-server in IncludeOS.This resulted in the creation of a compact web-server through using the file system in socket programing.Through two performance tests, I tested the two versions of the file system with tmpfs. In these two tests, I performed one horizontal and one vertical scaling test, to compare the difference between tmpfs and the two versions of the read only file system. These tests will show the read-speed and the speed of locating items in the files systems. The file system with socket programming performed as a web-server that could show web-pages on the we-browser.Connected user could request the content of files and folders through requesting pages from the web-server.The performance-tests concluded that the tree-structure version were superior then the index version in both test.Tmpfs was tested with the same test-environment as read only file system and performed better.iii There are some people that have helped and supported me to complete this thesis. To these people I would like to show my appreciation for all their help and support through this period.I would like to start with the person who have supported me the most -Hanne Aker.Without your help it would be impossible to complete this thesis.Thank you for all of your effort and support, Hanne.I want to show my appreciation for all of the help I got from my supervisor Hårek Haugerud. With your guidance, the thesis was directed in the right direction.
