Broadcasting techniques for route discovery in mobile Adhoc network — A survey

Panthini V Patel, Bintu Kadhiwala · International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development · 2016

In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) nodes are move freely in any directions. There is no fixed topology. Due to high mobility of nodes, frequent link breakages occurs which results in path failures and route discoveries. The overhead of route discovery is effective. Node broadcast route request packet to its neighbor node for route discovery. All intermediate nodes between source and destination node rebroadcasts packet. This may cause broadcast storm problem. Broadcasting is an essential step of route discovery. There are four types of broadcasting methods. Simple flooding, area based methods, probability based methods and neighbor knowledge methods. Neighbor knowledge methods are better in performance from all and simple flooding is least. We compare all the techniques using some useful parameters.
