A Minimalist Model for Coordination

Charles J. Petrie · The MIT Press eBooks · 1992

The REDUX model of planning and design makes a minimal representation commitment from which substantial coordination functionality can be derived. The basic elements of the design process, or planning, are modeled as the reduction of goals by operators into subgoals and assignments. If agents responsible for different parts of the design/plan development or execution can agree upon variables, then the model provides a way of presenting/wrapping the design process in such a way that opportunities and conflicts arising from agent decisions can be detected. Further, we suggest email-based agents for assistance in incrementally building REDUX models.
