Making a Makerspace
Owen G. McGrath · 2016
As higher education institutions set up and run makerspaces, important choices and challenges arise in deciding how to approach the planning and design of both the spaces and the services to be offered [1,2]. This paper looks at the experience of growing maker-centric spaces and support in the context of transforming some traditional teaching and learning settings (e.g., library study areas, classrooms, and computer labs). The all-important planning phase for this transformation included a year-long service design initiative structured by user-centered design principles.
