Traditional routing mode is just responsible for receiving and forwarding data packets. The proposing of network coding offers a new research direction for the development of wireless sensor networks(WSN) [1]. Preliminary theoretical studies and experiments have shown the advantages of network coding which can improve throughput and reduce energy consumption in WSN [2,3]. By linear coding operation, network will be optimized [4]. Energy efficiency is a key design criterion for routing protocols in WSN since nodes are strongly constrained in terms of energy supply. This paper focuses on how to find network coding opportunity and how efficient the model can be with network coding in LEACH protocol. Network coding opportunities exist in traffic in opposite directions over two wireless hops in order to decrease the count of packet transmission. Based on this point, this paper utilizes network coding with correlation coefficient which can determine the timing of coding on the Sink node in LEACH protocol model and proposes a new C-LEACH model. This paper compares them via simulation. As a result, network throughput and Sink node residual energy are all improved in C-LEACH model.
