Comparative evaluation of token-ring and CSMA/CD medium-access control protocols in LAN configurations

H. Okada, Yosuke Nomura, Takeshi Yamamoto, Y. Nakanishi · 2005

SUMMARY The objective of this paper is to present a comparative performance evaluation of the representative medium-access control protocols in local area networks; Token-ring and CSMAICD. This paper defines a unit-period consisting of an access-time and the subsequent packet-transmission-time. By considering the beginning of this unit-period as the imbedded Markov point, 'his paper makes it possible to analyze the trans, iiission behavior of both medium-access control protocols under an identical analysis method, stochastically. Further, this paper shows some quantitative characteristics on typical local area network configurations and discusses them.
