A method for the automatic location of several characteristic points in an electrocardiogram (ECG) with an adaptive system tuned to the cardiologist's criterion is described. So far, the points determined by the algorithm are the end and beginning of P and T waves, assigning different adaptation constants for each of these. The main advantages of the proposed method are immunity to noise, to base-line variations and adaptation to the criterion assumed by the cardiologist by marking a few pulses. The theoretical study is backed with a series of experimental results obtained from the analysis of the MIT-BIH database registers.
