Efficient Mappings Of Continuous Motion Into Speech

Andrij W. Huryn, R. Willams, Leon Ferber · 2005

Speech representation design is critical for a successful alternative speech device. Existing devices (PiCS, BUSSTALK[l]) typically represent word or phrase units of speech as symbols which are discretely chosen by the user. Efficient speech mappings combined with continuous motion Input could provide greater flexibility in speech production and a more natural interface for the user. Two static speech mappings and two dynamic speech mappings for a continuous motion augmentative speech device are discussed and evaluated.
