Detection of CPM based on second-order cyclostationarity

Amy C. Malady, A. A. Louis Beex · 2010

Previous work has focused on the cyclostationarity properties of complex CPM signals; depending on the size of the symbol alphabet and the values and number of modulation indices, evaluation of cyclostationarity at various high orders may be required. A novel detection method is presented that is based on the cyclostationarity present in the individual real and imaginary components of CPM signals. We observe that second-order cyclostationarity exists for certain delay vectors in 1REC CPM signals, regardless of the size of the symbol alphabet or the values and number of modulation indices. This low-order cyclostationarity is exploited to perform blind, asynchronous detection of CPM signals in the presence of complex additive Gaussian noise.
