As computer science enters school curricula around the world, many teachers are having to teach the topic of computer programming for the first time. For those who have little experience in the area it can be daunting, while those who are experienced programmers may be so familiar with the subject that it is hard to see what is dicult about it! This article explores the reality of what we need to be teaching in schools, and considers what the essence of the topic is.
