Convergence of Java EE and SIP in IMS AS
Prasad Subramanian, P.G Binod · 2007
IMS is emerging as a standard for convergence of various communication networks like fixed/mobile and communication media such as voice or video over IP. Application servers in the IMS architecture are a part of the Service Layer of the IMS architecture and they provide the capability to host application that provide services to end users. Application servers in the IMS service layers are expected to support a open , pluggable environment to add services across vendors and also to share services across application servers. The IMS application servers typically use SIP and DIAMETER as the underlying protocols for communication with other layers and entities within the network. The convergence of Java EE and SIP provides a standardized platform for IMS application servers and opens up the gates for a large number of developers and vendors to contribute.. This platform extends the Servlet programming model known as the SIP Servlet API , for creating SIP based network elements.
