In order to calibrate an rf power sensor, the direct transfer technique is widely used. The transfer technique can be implemented using the well-known direct transfer system consisting of a signal generator, a power splitter, and auxiliary indicating instruments or a vector network analyzer (VNA). In general, the VNA has a built-in signal generator and directional coupler. The calibration factor of a power sensor has been measured in the frequency range of 10 MHz to 18 GHz using the VNA and compared the results to those measured by the direct transfer system. For higher power level of the signal generator, the measurement results using the direct transfer system showed better accuracy than results using the VNA.
