Optimal Geometry Designs for Unconstrained and Topologically-Constrained Multistatic Sensors

Ryan Fogle, Brian D. Rigling · 2006

As sensor technology increases, the use of multi-static sensor systems containing a number of monostatic and/or bistatic links is becoming more feasible. The geometry of a multistatic system greatly affects overall performance, especially in terms of spatial resolution. This paper presents an algorithm for Cramer-Rao lower bound based sensor geometry design using steepest descent minimization of target location uncertainty. A free-space example is presented; then, the algorithm is extended to consider geometries of ground-based sensors constrained to different topological surfaces.
