Designing a new microprocessor is a complex process taking several years from start to finish. Even the earliest stages of the design cycle, namely defining the microarchitecture, can take several months, if not years. Our work deals with increasing the efficiency of these early design phases: selecting representative program-input pairs, efficient design space exploration, incorporating the impact of technology, etc. This abstract gives an overview of the major issues concerning the earliest stages of the design process and details on how our work contributes to these issues.
