Biometrics for Human Face Reconstruction in 3D

Frédérique Robert‐Inacio, Frédéric Caudal, Cedric Rousset · 2006

The reconstruction of a human face by using a single image acquisition is an original and not so easy task to achieve. The images we have to deal with can contain either a fullface portrait or a profile. The aim of this study is to set up several tools enabling to interpret data in 2D so that the corresponding data in 3D could be estimated. The acquisition is achieved by a numerical camera and images are processed in order to determine the characteristic points of the face. This set of points is then linked to a synthetic model of human head, in order to make this model fit the contrast information included in the 2D image. The result is a 3D representation of the face enabling the access to altimetry at each point.
