On the modeling of bursty traffic

In the study of congestion control for asynchronous transfer mode types of transport, traffic characteristic of the sources is important parameters. The variable bit rate (VBR) video signal is simulated using a generic continuous-data autoregressive (AR) Markov model from Maglaris et al. (1987) A simple approach is developed to predict the behaviour of multiplexing several video signals such that the resulting signal loss can be estimated without resorting to time consuming simulation techniques.>
