A FIELD SURVEY AND MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF RING-FORTS IN SOUTHERN COUNTY DONEGAL

Gillian F. Barrett · 1980

SUMMARY This paper presents the results of a field survey of ring-forts in southern Co. Donegal. Consideration is given to the morphological variety and problems of definition of ring forts as field monuments. Ring-fort classifications are evaluated and a simple scheme proposed. The high rate of modification and removal is indicated and the need for additional field surveys of the rapidly disappearing field antiquities of Ireland is high lighted.
