The Emergence of Quantified Self as a Data-driven Movement to Promote Health and Wellness

Within the last few years we have noticed an increasing use of digital technologies by individuals as a means to provide inputs on aspects of a person's daily life, typically for improving health and wellness. This is commonly referred to as the quantified self movement. In this keynote talk I will explore the applications and uses of quantified self data as a means of promoting individual health and wellness. I will discuss my own experiences as a coordinator of the European Quantified Self movement with a focus on exponential technologies and their positive impacts on the individual, while at the same time outlining the concerns of individuals and society towards such technologies in terms of data privacy and security, which is referred to as responsible innovation.
