Optimization of retransmissions in computer networks

~ • • L Compute~Networks.~~~E NILSSON).(Under the guidance of wuSHOW CHOU and ~wc parallel models were developed to inves~igate the delays expe~ienced by use~s of the t~ansport protocol.The former assumed a single-valued global ret~ansm:ssion ti~eou~.In the latter ins~ance, :he transport pro~ocol provices a unique timeout for each route in ~he network.In bot~approaches, existing models of the underlying network ~ere used to construct a hierarchical desc~iption of the delays encountered by transport protocol users.It has been shown that it is possible to minimize ~hese delays by a iudicious selec~ion of the retransmission timeou~.~I n the event of unsaturated t~affic conditions in the network, an emperically linear relationship was found to exis~be~ween the optimal route ret~ansmission :imeouts and the corresponding acknowledgement delays.
