RF Platforms for Cognitive Radio

Charles W. Bostian, Nicholas J. Kaminski, Almohanad S. Fayez · Institution of Engineering and Technology eBooks · 2016

In this chapter, we have presented an overview of the functions and specifications for cognitive radio RF platforms. Typically, these combine analog and digital components and signalprocessing systems and offer the user a wide range of options trading off cost, performance, the development effort required, and required computational support. RFICs are attractive for simple applications typically requiring channelized communications with FSK-based waveforms, while SDRs offer power and flexible performance in return for commensurate investment in software development.
