Linguistic Analysis of Unstructured Text by Chunk-parsing, Tagging, and Semantic Interpretation

In this article we discuss some aspects of enhanced tagging for dynamic modeling in German. We first scan a sentence top down for units containing maximally one main verb. Based on verb-class identification and the respective information about the sentence, its arguments can be found. Chunks not identified unequivocally are analysed by means of key words and combined to larger units before assigning them to the verb. This extended analysis is based on a combined mechanism of semantic tagging and chunking supporting an interpretation for conceptual modeling. It is particularly useful in thoses cases where parsers can not cope with the complexity of the sentences involved.
