Phase-compensator design using convex-programming scheme
Tian–Bo Deng · 2016
This paper proposes a new method for designing an all-pass digital phase-compensator (PC) for compensating the non-linear phase characteristic of a digital communication channel. The digital PC is designed to approximate a given ideal phase response in the minimax error sense. Originally, this minimax design is a difficult non-linear programming (NLP) problem. In this paper, we approximate this nonlinear programming problem as a non-iterative second-order-cone (SOC) programming (non-iterSOCP) problem and then solve this approximated problem using a solver (software). As compared with the existing non-iterative design that uses real-valued constraint matrices, the newly formulated one employs complex-valued constraint matrices. The latter has simpler design formulation. In addition, we also present a demonstrative design to show that the newly formulated design can also get more accurate design results. That is, the new non-iterative formulation using complex-valued constraint matrices can even enhance the design performance of the obtained digital PC.
