Area and energy‐efficient physically unclonable function based on k‐winners‐take‐all

An area and energy‐efficient physically unclonable function (PUF) based on k‐winners‐take‐all (k‐WTA) is presented. Competitive computing dynamics of k‐WTA reduces key‐generation cell in WTA‐based PUF to a single transistor, necessary for area/energy‐constrained applications. Differential key generation in the PUF generates stable keys at varying temperature and supply voltage variations. Array design considerations for WTA‐PUF are studied. Performance of k‐WTA‐based PUF is compared against the static random access memory (SRAM)‐based PUF.
